About
Donna Sgro creates clothing that stimulates the mind, the eye
and the heart.
Donna Sgro is an independent, boutique womenswear label communicating a thoroughly modern, expressive and inquisitive philosophy. The aesthetic combines classic and quirky, treading the tightrope between these two seemingly disparate approaches with finesse and enjoyment.
Drawing on far-ranging inspirations and technologies, each range is designed and manufactured in Australia, with a deeply responsible approach. Every garment is unique, yet characteristic of Donna Sgro, creating a cohesive and adaptable range. Whether eye-catching or wardrobe staples, the pieces deliver on a psychological, aesthetic and emotional level.
The eye appreciates classic proportions and structured tailoring. Upon closer inspection, a smile emerges; just enough whimsical detail to invite intrigue and delight.
Exploring Donna Sgro’s own interests, textiles juxtapose the latest technologies and production methods with playful colour combinations. Fabrics are carefully selected for their quality, and prints are designed in-house to ensure an individual look for each collection.
The range offers inspiration across seasons, responding to, and engaging with, the every day. Statement pieces, jersey separates and accessories combine to create a look that is wearable, customisable and accessible. Defining the brand are statement pieces that provide the energy around which the range develops. Staple jerseys are made in quality materials, with small details that mark them definitively as Donna Sgro pieces, and quirky accessories complete the styling.
Donna Sgro continues to build an international profile for the brand. As part of the 1st Shinmai Creator’s Project and showcased at Japan Fashion Week in Tokyo in 2009, Donna Sgro was exhibited in Paris and now is part of Trash Fashion at the London Science Museum.
Donna Sgro is committed to her craft. Having studied fashion and textile design at the University of Technology, Sydney , she is currently pursuing a PhD at RMIT in Slow Fashion, and is actively involved with the next generation of designers as a fashion lecturer at the University of Technology, Sydney.
Donna Sgro pieces express the creative and quirky elements of the women around the world who enjoy wearing them every day.
